Thirty eight years ago my parents bought what was then the Central Hotel in Britstown, in the northern Cape. It’s a good place to have a hotel, because Britstown is to within about 30 km EXACTLY half-way between Cape Town and Johannesburg on the N12.
They changed the name of the hotel to the Transkaroo Country Lodge and then proceeded to turn it into one of the most charming hotels in the Karoo. I’ll let the pictures below speak for themselves.
As a result, for my family, coming home for Christmas to spend some time here is a totally different experience than just going home to mum. Is it not everyone's dream to go home and then have all the comforts of a hotel at their disposal? Lazy days by the pool, with cola tonics on tap, and with every meal ordered off the menu!
