When in Stellenbosch ..... Hidden Valley Wine Estate

One of the most enjoyable things about having family that live in Stellenbosch, is that, well, all that Stellenbosch-ness is right on their doorstep! One late afternoon during my long weekend, we followed a road past some of the well-known wineries of Stellenbosch until we reached a secluded winery at the end of the road, aptly named Hidden Valley. The state of the art winery is nestled into the side of the slope and the beautiful stone, wood and glass building is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. It boasts incredible views across the Cape Flats towards Table Mountain. It is also home to Overture, one of the country's top fine dining restaurants and this year's No. 4 on the Eat Out awards.

We spent some time on the patio tasting their wines, before meandering through the beautiful fynbos garden. Elanie immediately started to plan a romantic picnic with her husband at their lake, while I immediately notched up the “five-year-scheme-to-move-to-the-cape” plan another gear.

  1. The stellenbosch wine estates are blessed with stunning scenery. Vineyards stretch over undulating hills with a backdrop of dramatic mountains.
