Where eagles soar...

Still on the theme of parks, today I want to recommend that you visit the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, probably the prettiest of all Johannesburg’s parks. This botanical garden (one of eight in SA) is on the outskirts of Roodepoort, a bit of a drive, but definitely worthwhile.

We love to pack a picnic basket on a Sunday and to find a shady spot somewhere on the lawn under one of the many trees. After that, the world slows down and you can lose an entire afternoon without feeling guilty; in fact quite the opposite – this is a perfect tonic for a weary Jo’burger’s soul.

Our picnic basket, as always, was “sponsored” by Woollies!

A couple of Sundays ago we had my sister in town, so we had lots of manpower that could take turns in taking Daniel on a meander past the forest trails to the Witpoortjie Waterfall. This spot is also famous for another reason: lucky visitors – but not us on this day - can see the nesting Verreaux’s Eagles soaring above the cliffs.
