The Whippet in Linden

It is time to stop reliving long weekends in the Cape and get back to our everyday Johannesburg life. We had a fantastic weekend, that included seeing the movie Les Misérables (do go and see it if you have a chance – it is absolutely wonderful), watching endless episodes of the new Grey’s Anatomy series, a wonderful Asian food experience (my husband’s tongue is still in pain after testing the “spicy” sauce that was served with his lamb dumplings!) and attending my little boy’s first ever school athletics meeting. After the athletics, the three of us went for brunch at the newly opened The Whippet in Linden.

The coffee shop is in a really lovely space, with big windows opening up to the outside seating area. The décor is funky with exposed brick walls and pretty light fixtures. I love their logo showing that the shop is on the corner of 4th and 7th. The shop owners see their business as a neighbourhood inspired coffee shop and want to celebrate and support the local butchers, bakers and growers around them in the neighbourhood. They also sell a few food goodies, ceramics, coffees and loose teas. I am sure the Lindenites will definitely support them and as for me, I can see myself at one of the great window seats behind my laptop, working a bit while waiting for Daniel’s school (in the same block!) to come out.
